Why We Love This Copycat Starbucks Lavender Latte

It seems that every coffee shop these days has a lavender latte on their menu – most recently, a couple large coffee chains: Starbucks and Caribou. But this has been a favorite coffee drink in our house for quite some time already, thanks to the lavender latte we discovered at one of our favorite local coffee shops several years ago! Here’s why we think you’ll love this drink too:

  • Absolutely lovely. This coffee drink is slightly sweet and lightly floral, with a beautiful earthy undertone. It looks and tastes like an upscale coffee shop drink.
  • Quick & easy. Made with just 3 ingredients, this copycat Starbucks latte is ready in just a few minutes. And it’s even better than Starbucks, as you can control how creamy or sweet you want it.
  • Save some $. Those coffee shop drinks can quickly drain your treats budget – so spendy! But when you have your own lavender syrup at the ready, you can enjoy a lavender latte whenever the mood strikes.

Recipe Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this lavender latte. Check the printable recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredient amounts.

  • Espresso – This coffee drink starts with a base of two shots of espresso. Use an espresso machine, Nespresso machine, moka pot, etc. You could use strong coffee in a pinch.
  • Lavender syrup – Use my recipe for easy, homemade lavender syrup in this recipe.
  • Oat milk – Extra creamy oat milk makes the latte rich and creamy, with steamed milk and a frothy foam topper. We recommend Chobani “Extra Creamy Oatmilk”. But you don’t have to make this lavender latte with oat milk – you can use any kind of milk you personally like.

How To Make A Lavender Latte

This copycat Starbucks lavender latte is very easy to make, a simple twist on a classic latte. Here’s how we do it. Find the detailed instructions in the recipe card lower down.

  • Add lavender simple syrup. Pour lavender syrup into a cup or mug.
  • Pour in espresso. Add freshly brewed espresso.
  • Steam & froth the oat milk. Steam the oat milk, then froth it. You can use any form of milk frother.
  • Add oat milk. Pour the steamed and frothed oat milk over the espresso. The steamed milk will pour into the drink and the frothy foam will layer over the top.

Tips & Variations

Make this recipe according to my easy recipe, which tastes like the Starbucks version – or try some variations. I’ve included a few tips and suggestions below.

  • No espresso machine? If you don’t have an espresso machine, Nespresso machine, or moka pot for making espresso, pick up a jar of instant espresso.
  • Try a different milk. You can use any type of milk to make this lavender latte. We also keep 2% milk on hand for coffee drinks. Whole milk, almond milk – any dairy and non-dairy milk that you prefer – it’s all good. Just know that some milks froth better than others, so it’s helpful to look for ones that are marked “barista” or similar.
  • Make your lavender syrup ahead. Make the lavender syrup, then store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month. Then you can enjoy a homemade lavender latte whenever you wish!
  • Add more lavender simple syrup. One of the benefits of making this latte at home is that you can adjust it to suit your tastes. If you especially like the taste of lavender, then go ahead and add more than the recipe calls for.
  • Boost the vanilla flavor. My homemade lavender syrup mixture already includes some vanilla. But you could always add some additional vanilla syrup if you keep that on hand (we do!).
  • Squeeze in some honey. Honey is ohhhhhh so lovely with lavender. Sometimes I add some into my lavender-flavored latte.
  • Serve it cold. You can also enjoy this as an iced lavender latte. Just add ice to a glass and pour the espresso and lavender syrup over the ice. Then froth cold oat milk and pour it into the glass. Give it a little stir to incorporate.
