This Taco Salad Dressing is a creamy dressing that’s full of bold flavor. And you are not going to believe how easy it is to make!

When I find a recipe that the entire family adores, you can bet that it graces our table regularly.

Such is the case with this Easy, Creamy Taco Salad Dressing.

I’ve been making this dressing for taco salad for a couple decades already, a recipe passed down from my dear friend Bobbi Jo. She had a thing for serving taco salad at gatherings, and I finally figured out what drew me to it so fiercely each and every time.

It was all about the dressing.

Creamy and full of bold flavor, you are not going to believe how easy this is to make!

*Here are a few more salad dressing recipes I’m loving right now: The recipe we make most often, an all-around family favorite, is this Homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing. I wouldn’t want to be without my mom’s recipe for her Sweet Onion Coleslaw Dressing – I make this all year long, but especially during prime grilling season. And I love to have this Herby Lemon Vinaigrette on hand – it’s a dressing full of summer sunshine!

Salads that eat like a meal are ones that I absolutely live for, especially during the heat of the summer. While we make this taco salad recipe during winter, spring, summer, and fall, it’s the warmer months when we make it the most. I’m thankful to my sister Jessica for making this salad a tradition in our family.

How to make taco salad dressing

This dressing couldn’t be easier to make. Especially because we always have these three bottles on hand: Thousand island dressing, Western or a zesty French dressing, and a mild taco sauce. If you like more heat, use a spicier taco sauce.

Just measure out each of these according to the recipe below and stir them together.

That is it!

I get that when I say “homemade”, this recipe is really just combining three bottles found on the grocery store shelves. But sometimes we just need “easy”. And I just haven’t found another taco salad dressing that I like more than this one!

*Here are a few more recipes I’d like to try: Our family loves a good balsamic vinaigrette, so I know this Honey Balsamic Vinaigrette from Barefeet in the Kitchen would be a hit. For all that fresh summer basil, this Basil Vinaigrette from Fifteen Spatulas looks WONDERFUL. And citrus always wins – I’m loving this bright Clementine Vinaigrette from Aggie’s Kitchen.

I hate recipes like this. Mix some of these three bottles together and call it a recipe? What if you only have actual ingredients? Such bs.

Hi! Would the French dressing be the same as Catalina since you use the red French as opposed to the orange?

  3. What is taco sauce?  Salsa? If so, there are so many different bottled brands and flavors out there. How is flavor consistent?

    1. Hi Susan – I included a photo of the products I regularly use to make this dressing. For the taco sauce, I usually buy the Ortega brand. But if you have a favorite taco sauce, use that!

  4. Yourself a favor and pick one up! These awesome, stretchy things are exactly what they sound like…a sock for your body! They’re great for providing all-over tactile and proprioceptive input and getting them on and off of the body is great practice for dressing!

  5. I always get stuck on dressing, no matter which recipe I try. This taco salad dressing looks easy. It looks quick too.

  6. this reminds me of a taco salad I used to make, love these flavors in the taco sauce and all of the ingredients in a typical taco salad, so thank you for this recipe
