A savory combination of coarse gray sea salt and black pepper, toasted onion, and herbs make this my family's go-to steak seasoning recipe!
Ingredients
1tablespooncoarse gray sea salt(I use All Goods brand "Mineral French Grey Sea Salt – Coarse", from Amazon)
2teaspoonsdried, minced (or flakes) toasted onion(crush a bit with a mortar & pestle, then measure 2 teaspoons)
¼teaspoondried rosemary(crush a bit with a mortar & pestle, then measure ¼ teaspoon)
¼teaspoondried lavender buds(crush a bit with a mortar & pestle, then measure ¼ teaspoon)
¼teaspoondried thyme leaves
¼teaspoondried basil leaves
¼teaspoondried marjoram leaves
¼teaspooncoarse freshly ground black pepper
⅛teaspoondried fennel(crush a bit with a mortar & pestle, then measure ⅛ teaspoon)
Instructions
Aim to have any larger-sized ingredients no larger than the coarse salt grains, using a mortar and pestle to crush if needed. Place all ingredients in a small bowl and stir to evenly combine.
Notes
Store in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Stir before using, to combine evenly.Easy to multiply, to make a bigger batch and save mixing time in the future. Recipe inspired by a grilled steak meal by our friends Kelly & Dani when Blake and I were first married. They used a seasoning mix from local Lunds & Byerlys, which we've since replicated here.
