Sauté the Onion and Garlic

In a saucepan on the stovetop, sauteé the onion garlic until they’re softened.

Simmer Briefly

Then stir in the ketchup and water. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Add the Spices

Stir in Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire, chipotle powder, ancho chili powder, smoked paprika, brown sugar, honey, and molasses. Cook for 10 minutes.


Transfer the mixture to a food processor or blender and puree until smooth – or carefully use an immersion blender, and blend right in the saucepan.


Use the sauce right away (straight from the pan, if you like!) or store it in the fridge or freezer.
