Be Cool, Valentine! {homemade valentines}

 

Do you remember making Valentines and Valentine boxes in grade school?  I absolutely loved all the art that went along with that holiday.  Each year I surrounded myself with colored papers, stickers, Mom’s heavy zigzig scissors from her sewing basket, and maybe a red paper heart doily or two, and spent hours creating My Best Valentine Box Ever.

Last year, instead of buying our standard boxed sets of animated Valentines for the girls to give to grandparents and school friends, I proposed crafting our own homemade Valentines. And the girls wholeheartedly grabbed onto the idea.

I aimed to keep it simple.

Hatti’s goal was to include candy.

So this is what we came up with. The cool and refreshing York Peppermint Pattie, a favorite candy of Hatti’s, attached to a simple heart with the words “Be cool”.

This craft kept both girls happily occupied for hours. They also took great pride in mailing them to grandparents and handing them out to friends.

And I got to dip into some grade school nostalgia, spending a few hours doing art with my favorite girlies.   :smile:
